Bodhi
Great news - We have a new Store Greeter-in-Training! Bodhi is a Miniature Golden Doodle.Although he is only a puppy, he is already at the store, and is already proving to be a natural at the job! Since he is still so young, at present he is only working short shifts on quiet days, so watch out for the puppy underfoot!

Mika
A lifelong passion for books and shopping got Mika into the store. What got her to stay were family ties and the realization that being your own boss rocks. Her background in anthropology keeps her always open to new ideas and views. She enjoys the challenge of keeping up with her customers' requests and of going with the flow of popular demand. Her time outside the store is spent hanging out with her husband and three beautiful sons....and reading, of course!

Moira
Moira has been at Singing Pebble Books since March 2000. She loves to read, play video games, and travel. She also loves animals. In January 2012 a Norwegian Elkhound puppy named Wulfrida joined her menagerie, which in addition comprises 4 cats, 2 rats and 2 Cockatoos. She travels more often than she can afford, and it is her ambition to visit every country in the world at least once. Since she now has 9 sponsored kids (with 3 different agencies - World Vision, Children International and Save the Children), she is currently concentrating on visiting countries where she has sponsored children, or where she can scuba dive, another of her passions. So far she has visited Sitonik and Phylis in Kenya, and Cintia and Anisberca in Dominican Republic. In June 2010 she visited three more of her children, Diarah in Mali, and Fatima and Safia in Niger. You can see a video of her visit to Diarah on her YouTube channel, MoiratheWanderer. Her newest passion is Kiva.org, an internet site where you can help entrepeneurs in Third World countries with micro-loans, from as little as $25.00! Moira has now made over 30 loans. Moira has also turned her love of baking into a way of raising money for charity, and you can now buy her gluten-free cookies at Singing pebble Books and help send a child to school in Zambia or Cameroon at the same time!

Allan
Allan comes to us from the Land of the Long White Cloud, otherwise known as New Zealand. He set off on his travels three and a half years ago and spent two years in London, England and also travelled extensively in Europe. He chose Canada as a destination because it was half way between Europe and New Zealand. He and his girlfriend Marketa are currently visiting his family in New Zealand, but he will be back by the end of February.

Chris
Chris owned The Miller's Tale in beautiful downtown Almonte from 1997 until 2010. He knows books, well, most books. Well some books. He really knows his favourites quite well!

Ameena
Ameena is a major book loving junkie who enjoys organizing and helping people find good books. She is ecstatically happy to have gotten this job thanks to all her kind co-workers and customers; especially because Moira's Marvelous (and Amazingly Delicious) Munchies are always around!

Caitlin (staff alumni)
As an eternal 'student of life' Caitlin was more than happy when her path led her to Singing Pebble Books. For such a small space, it was truly amazing for her to find favourites on every shelf! In her spare time, Caitlin enjoys crafting beautiful things, visualizing her dreams coming to fruition, cultivating herbs in her kitchen, singing, and enjoying her new husband's delicious cooking.

Amelia (on sabbatical)
Amelia has been working in bookstores since she was 16, and has been a proud staff member at Singing Pebble since July 2010. In addition to being a booklover, Amelia is also a student at the University of Ottawa, and a musician. You can listen to her music and check out her upcoming show dates at Amelia Leclair, or Three Little Birds

The Okala Foundation's Another Brick in the Wall campaign
Singing Pebble Books has chosen the Okala foundation's Another Brick in the Wall campaign to build a school in Meyenne, Cameroon as our charity of choice. This is a grassroots organization dedicated to helping a number of communities in Cameroon with education, health, clean water, and conservation. In addition, we are also sponsoring one child from each school, Brenda Nyangono and Ebel Ebel. Brenda's father died last year, and she asked us for a sewing machine for her mother, so she could support Brenda and her 5 siblings. We sent the money, and here is a picture of Brenda with the sewing machine, which she received in April 2009.For more information about the Okala Foundation and their campaigns click here.
